Most common tests
Our laboratory provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary pathology services. As part of a regular checkup, to get a diagnosis, or perhaps to provide a benchmark, your doctor may request one or more laboratory tests. Here is a list of the most common tests ordered and their purpose. Most tests are done using a blood sample. Some standard tests are usually performed on admission to a hospital or as part of an annual physical.
The list of tests
Check available tests
A large number of tests are widely available. Many tests are specialized for a particular disorder or group of related disorders. Other tests are commonly used for a wide range of disorders. Sometimes a test is used for more than one purpose. A blood test may show that a person has too few red blood cells (anemia). The same test may be repeated after treatment to determine whether the number of red blood cells has returned to normal.
Quality of clinical tets
For many people, clinical laboratory testing is an unfamiliar side of medical care. Yet many of the decisions you and your healthcare provider make about your health status – obtaining a diagnosis, developing a course of action for treatment, or monitoring your body’s response to therapy – are based on laboratory data. Our clinical laboratory testing is held to very high state and federal regulatory standards.
Normal laboratory value
Normal test values are expressed as a range, which is based on the average values in a healthy population. That is, 95% of healthy people have values within this range. However, average values are slightly different for women and men and may vary by age. For some tests, these values also vary among laboratories. Thus, when doctors get a laboratory test result, the laboratory also gives them its own normal range for that test.
